My name is Allen, a Geelong based amature photographer and this is my challenge for 2012,to take one image a day, for 2012. My goal is to get not one image alike, to push myself to find new skills and techniques to further my photography.

Another Late Night
Tonight was another bit of late night inspiration that seem to strike out of nowhere. While thinking of ideas for today's image (the 5th of January), I came up with the idea of trying to capture water droplets. Aftre a little bit of expirementing, I suddenly thought of trying to add a little colour by using my wife's food dies that she had in her cooking box in the pantry. What happened was not what I was expecting, and took me down a completly different path, but the result was something, while I'm not quite happy with, I found to be completly amazing. This will be something that I think I will be revisiting and refining in the future.

Late Night Black and White
I was looking around for today's image, and I was having trouble findng something that took my interest. Nothing seemed to come to mind, until around 23:00, I took a look out of the bedroom window. Across the road there is a new unit block being constructed, and as I looked at the rear of the block, I started to see a black and white image from in my mind, so I grabbed the camera and headed outside. A few shots later, then bit of a edited in adobe camera raw and photoshop CS5, this was the end result. Technically this is now posted a day late, as it's after midnight, but at least I got the image for the day! So here is the image for January 4th, 2012.
1/13 second exposure, on tripod and shutter release cord, focal length 75mm @f/5.4, ISO 100 on a Canon 50D with a Tamron 18-200mm XR Di II macro lense.

Looking for inspiration
Again it's been another day of heat, hot, humid unrelenting heat. Couple this with sleeping for night shift and a bunch of kids running riot in the house, the drive to find a image for today seemed to fade from mind. It was during the late afternoon that I wondered outside, to see if it was cooler outside and if the predicted change was comming through, when I saw the state of some of our plants in the garden, after the three days of high 30's and 40 degee (celsius), so I took a closer look. Now normally I don't shoot flowers, it's not one of my usual subjects, but it was a oppurtunity to use one of my new toys I got at christmas from my wife, a LED ring flash. So armed with camera, ring flash, and a accompanying 4yo, I went out to shoot some of the plants in our drivway, and this was the end result.

Best laid plans
Inspiration hits at anytime, or so I'm told, and it was true for me last night. While I was at work on night shift I had an idea for today's image, so after getting home, getting changed and finding some breakfast, I grabbed the camera and one of the kids Nerf guns for a bit of black and white macro work. End result, didn,t quite work out how I planned. No matter what I tried, it just wasn't working for me. Eventually I crashed out, as seeing it was going to be a hot day, and I don't have air con in my bedroom, I grabbed some sleep. I woke up in the afternoon, just as the heat of the day kicked in, and only a hour later, the pager went off for a large grass fire, to which, I didn't take the camera! I would of had my shot for the day! Bugger! Ah well. So, after a bit of a play in photoshop, here is today's image, one I'm not very happy with. Hopefully tomorrow will give me a better opputunity.

And so it Begins..........
It started with a idea, of projects that other photographers have done, where they had taken a image a day for a whole year, and so the germ of idea took root in my mind, to make my own attempt at a project like this. So the question was, where to start? What do I shoot to kick this project off? Having announced this idea on my Redbubble site, a fellow photographer friend text and suggested the New Year's Eve fireworks as Image 1. It made complete sense. Why not start a year's worth of images at the very start of the year? So we geared up, and met up at the Geelong waterfront, and this is the first image of Project 366.
For the techincally minded:
This image was shot at Griffins Gully, along Geelong's Western Beach. I used my trusty Canon 50D, on tripod with shutter release cable, @95mm on a Tamron 18-200mm lens, with @f/5.4 on a 20 second exposure.
A little about me. I'm a Geelong based amature photographer, who now and then suffers from the odd occasional free thought. My photography interest vary, from aircraft, to capturing the Country Fire Authority in action, of which I am a proud Volunteer Fire Fighter and member. I've been getting more and more into photography since 2007 when I brought my first digital SLR, a Canon 400D. Since then I've moved up to a Canon 50D and I am slowly working on acquiring more lenses. I have a profile on Redbubble ( http://www.redbubble.com/people/allengray) where I tend to upload a lot of my work. That's a breif nutshell about me!
If you got this far, thanks for reading! And please keep checking back as I update this blog.
